Even with the best laid plans, sometimes burn marks happen when it comes to your countertops. These marks are unsightly blemishes that no one wants to experience. Whether it’s a burn from a hot curling iron on your bathroom countertop or one from a hot pan in your kitchen, there are a number of things you can do to prevent these burn marks from happening. And, if they do happen, don’t worry, because you can fix them!

Laminate countertops are the most affordable countertop materials out there, but they’re also the most susceptible to burn marks. If you get a burn mark on your laminate countertop, you can use a toothbrush and some white toothpaste to remove the stain; a bleach solution is helpful as well. If the burn mark is deep, sanding can help too. Unfortunately, if the burn mark is very deep, you may not be able to remove it from your laminate countertops. However, you can use a number of objects to create a clever cover-up so no one will even notice the burn mark!

Burn marks can also appear on wood, stone, and faux stone countertops. If this happens, use fine sandpaper to sand away the marks. If the mark has burned deep enough to leave an indentation, you can even out your countertop by using epoxy resin.

To prevent these burn marks from happening, be sure to use trivets and hot pot covers in your kitchen. If you use a curling iron or hair straightener in your bathroom, be sure to turn them off when they’re not in use and place a heat-resistant mat under them when they are in use.
