Thanksgiving is just a few days away, and the holiday season is upon us! This time of year people entertain guests more often than usual, and that means that they’re usually cooking more than usual too. All of this food and drink is great for your guests, but it can wreak havoc on your countertops. So, here are a few cleaning tips for your countertops this holiday season:

  • To prevent burns to your countertops, be sure to use trivets for all hot dishes. Never sit a hot/warm dish or place directly on your countertop.
  • If you notice a spill on your countertops, clean it up as soon as you can, since some items can stain if they sit for too long.
  • If you notice any wine stains on your countertop, you can clean it up by creating a paste using 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. Cover the stain with the paste and then cover that with plastic wrap; let it sit for 24 hours, and then clean the paste away with soapy water.
  • Find a countertop cleaner that’s made especially for your countertop cleaning, or you can stick with warm water and soap for most messes. Always use a non-abrasive cleaner and rag/sponge to remove stains.
  • If you have granite countertops, it’s a good idea to apply sealant every 6-12 months.
