Some countertop materials are more durable than others, but burn marks can happen no matter what type of countertop you have. To avoid getting burn marks, use trivets and the like to sit hot pots and pans on your countertop. However, sometimes we’re in the middle of things, and sit a pot or pan on our countertop without thinking. If this happens, here what you should do:

While granite countertops are extremely durable and heat-resistant, they can still get burn marks. If this happens, use soap and water first to clean up any soot or other debris. Next, you can make a homemade cleaning solution using flour and hydrogen peroxide. This will make a gritty sort of paste which you then spread over the burn mark, completely covering it. Next, cover the stain with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in it, securing it around the edges with painter’s tape. Let this paste sit for 24 hours and scrape away the dried up paste; this should also scrape away the burn marks. For more information about this cleaning method, be sure to visit hunker.com.

Another method includes using fine sandpaper to scrape away any unevenness caused by the burn. Then, fill in the indentation left by the burn mark with epoxy resin.
